ANNUAL CHILDREN'S GENTLY-USED BOOK DRIVE
Dr. Garlington's statewide "Annual Gently-Used Children's Book Drive" is a very significant project aimed at helping the state of Connecticut close the Academic Achievement Gap by encouraging and facilitating reading by at-risk children. In response to mass emails to universities, churches and civic organizations, over 100,000 books have been donated to this endeavor. Significant support has been provided from several local universities - most notably, St. Joseph's University in West Hartford, CT.
The purpose of this drive is to promote early-age reading, while encouraging engagement between children and parents/caretakers. Toward this end this book drive collects books appropriate for children ages five to ten years. We ask you to support this very worthwhile project by donating gently-used (or new!) children's books.
We have been able to make a wide variety of books available to children statewide. This program provides a cost-free means for families to incorporate reading into everyday fun activities, particularly during "TV Turn-Off Week". It helps provide children of Connecticut a positive experience with reading, helps encourage creativity, and inspires them to enjoy learning.
THANK YOU, CONNECTICUT!!!
